Nordic walking

We invite you to burn calories with Nordic Walking!

The U Stolëma Recreation Center in Ostrzyce, in collaboration with the Kaszubian Tourism Association, has initiated the promotion of NORDIC WALKING in the Ostrzyce area. This sport, increasingly popular in Western Europe, is gaining more and more enthusiasts in Poland as well. Therefore, to meet the needs of athletes and tourists visiting our beautiful region, we have decided to prepare Nordic Walking trails that will make practicing this interesting sport even more enjoyable.

WHO IS NORDIC WALKING FOR?

Both young, athletic individuals and those who do not have time for physical activity on a daily basis, as well as elderly people, can participate in these activities. Thanks to the „additional pair of legs,” elderly individuals can walk much more safely. Nordic Walking is an ideal way for anyone who wants to stay in shape, especially for those working at desks, as it relieves neck and shoulder tension.

HOW TO START NORDIC WALKING?

To start Nordic Walking, not much is needed. Apart from the desire to get out and move, you will need comfortable shoes suitable for the weather and season, sportswear that is comfortable for walking, and a pair of Nordic Walking poles. The poles should be tailored to both the person’s height and physical capabilities. It’s a good idea to take at least a few initial classes under the supervision of an instructor, who will demonstrate the Nordic Walking technique and properly adjust the poles.

NORDIC WALKING TECHNIQUE

The Nordic Walking poles will significantly improve the exercise effects and walking experience. When you try Nordic Walking for the first time, you can start by moving your arms naturally, as you would during regular walking. Once you’re used to the poles, you can start pushing them backwards when they touch the ground. Pushing increases the walking speed and simultaneously enhances the workout for your upper body muscles. Remember to alternate the movements of your legs and arms.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRACTICING NORDIC WALKING?

  • Burns about 400 calories per hour, compared to 280 calories burned during a regular walk,
  • Heart rate increases by 5 to 17 beats per minute compared to a regular walk,
  • Energy expenditure increases by 46% when using poles compared to a regular walk,
  • Eliminates muscle pain and tightness in the neck and shoulder area,
  • Significant improvement in the lateral mobility of the neck and spine,
  • Active work of arm muscles, triceps, chest, abdominal muscles, buttocks, and legs,
  • Reduces the load on the knees and other joints,
  • Poles improve safety on slippery surfaces.

For all our guests, Nordic Walking poles are available for free.
